We were contacted by our friends at the Michigan Horse Welfare Coalition regarding a horse that was in serious need of medical care. We answered the call and drove four hours to Kalamazoo to where River lived.
River's owners are very caring people who ran into huge financial difficulties. When their difficulties began, they immediately put their three horses up for sale. They successfully rehomed their other two horses, but the River became sick and crippled with laminitis. With no money for a vet, they fortunately reached out to the Michigan Horse Welfare Coalition for help. They in turn reached out to us. My heart breaks for these people. They truly love River and did the absolute best they could with the circumstances they found themselves in. River was diagnosed with Cushings Diseased, an incurable, but very manageable disease with proper medication. Once she was given the lifesaving medication, she became immediately better. Getting her back in shape will be slow but steady. We are hopeful she will be available for adoption within the next few months. She could really use a sponsor angel to help pay for her care and medication while she's here with us. | ||||||
